Salvete AP Latin students! Here is our new blog! I am hoping to use it often. Leave me a comment and let me know how you feel about using this blog as a way to discuss Vergil.
I think the blog will be helpful for the most part. The only downside will be that if people have the same views on something the comments may get repetitive.
The blog will definitely be helpful for gaining translations if absent but i don't feel that it will replace actively writing translations and parts of speech in class.
The blog will be a great resource for collaborating on work and sharing details about grammar and figures of speech that can be missed in class. However, I'm unsure whether the blog will get a lot of usage since it is sort of out of the way online. --Davus
I agree that the blog shouldn't replace writing the translations in class because I know, personally, writing it out helps me to study in the long run. I also don't think it will be too helpful because, as Davus said, it is out of the way being online. But if someone is absent it could be useful.
I like the idea of the blog as a resource for us to collaborate on tricky bits of translation and to share figures of speech and other smaller details of translation that may be overlooked in class (as Davus said above). It will also be helpful in catching absent people up with translations so we don't have to run around to make copies of translations. I don't think it should replace writing down clean copies of translations in class because while it may be slightly slower, I think I get the most out of class doing it like that.
I think the blog will be helpful for things like extra credit assignments, or prompts that we wouldn't otherwise have time to discuss in class. In blogs for online classes I've taken, though, where everyone has to respond to the same question and then reply to others' responses, things get really redundant. I prefer when a blog promotes more natural discussion. I hope we can have regular assignments on here for extra credit, and I do think it will be helpful for getting caught up on make up work. Another idea is maybe before tests we could use this for review, for example someone could post notes from class or post the questions from our review game or something along those lines. Or different people could be assigned different questions to respond to for review in the week before a test. Just some ideas...
